What's a Homebrew?

A homebrew game is a game developed by a hobbyist after the commercial life of a console has ended. There are homebrew games for pretty much any platform you can think of, but because of its age and popularity, the Atari 2600 has one of the longest running and most active homebrew scenes of any system. The first Atari 2600 homebrew, the audio utility SoundX, appeared in 1994. It was followed in 1995 by the first homebrew game, Edtris 2600. The early homebrews looked a little amateurish with their photocopied manuals and dot matrix printed labels, but recent homebrews are nearly indistinguishable from commercial releases.

What's on this Site?

Like most homebrews, this site is the creation of a single hobbyist, working on it when time allows. For now, most of the links you see to the left are more like Coming Attractions than actual features, but the game database is fully functional, allowing you to search through an ever-growing list of over 500 games.

Where's Circus Convoy?

Audacity games has repeatedly asserted that they are not homebrewers and that Circus Convoy is not a homebrew game. That's why it's not in the database.
